Experience the Thrill (and Embarrassment) of a First Date During This True-to-Life Comedy

This Friday, The Public Theater of San Antonio will present the highly-anticipated production of the First Date. With a book by Austin Winsberg and a score by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, First Date depicts, in all-too-real time, the initial encounter between Aaron and Casey, two generically mismatched New Yorkers who’ve been set up by her sister. Don’t miss the insightful production on October 25th!

When tightly-wound Aaron is set up with laid-back Casey on a blind date, a casual drink turns into an uproarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds, this mismatched pair's inner critics take on a life of their own, as other patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes, and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers, and potential conversational land mines. The result is a gleefully awkward evening, as these two romantics try to turn a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives.

With the influences of their friends and family (played out in their imaginations) as well as the effects of social media (Google, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube personified), this first date seems to be doomed. But with the help of meddling but well-meaning waiter, Casey, and Aaron might make a connection after all. With a contemporary rock score, the First Date gleefully pokes fun at the mishaps and mistakes of blind dates and gives hope that there could be that one perfect moment.

“Refreshing. A winning crowd-pleaser delivered with comic verve & charm.” —The Hollywood Reporter
