Get Your Freezer Under Control With These 3 Tips

Keeping a tidy freezer is one task that’s much easier said than done. If you’re like us, you start off with the best of intentions, before eventually packing your freezer with meat and vegetable, on-the-go meals, cold treats, herb clippings, leftover dinners...the list goes on and on. Before you know it, you’re squeezing anything that can fit in your freezer, without giving the organization a second thought.

However, in order to keep correct stock of what you have in your freezer, and make daily cooking a breeze, you’ll want to keep your freezer more organized. Not to mention, doing so will prevent accidental food waste. So, without further ado, here are 3 tips for freezer organization.

Create “zones” in your freezer.

If you were to categorize the food in your freezer, what would those categories be? For example, maybe you have a lot of meat, or frozen vegetables are in abundance. Zone the shelves or drawers accordingly and everything will have a place in your freezer.

Use plastic bags to freeze things flat.

Though throwing a big chunk of meat into the freezer might be the fastest option, freezing things flat ensures that you can better accommodate your items. In fact, the flatter you can get your items to freeze, the easier it will be to organize your freezer and keep everything accounted for.

Always label and date your food.

Despite what you may think now, it’s unlikely that you’ll remember what that item is or when it was frozen when you eventually go to defrost it. Label your food properly, and you’ll make it easier to find what you need while avoiding accidentally ingesting spoiled food.
